Ghislain Chauviteau is a professor in Simoun's university, and is Simoun's music instructor. He discovered Simoun shortly after the child's soccer accident, and has been an invaluable tutor and guiding hand since.

When he met Simoun as a child, he had been convinced that Simoun was an Angel. But he abandoned this idea as he became closer to the boy and simply thought him a young person with extraordinary musical talent.

Simoun tries to keep the truth from him in order to protect him, but as is the way with these things, he finds out eventually.

Everyone thinks he's just another nice old man, but he is actually a fairly renowned researcher. His musical research led him to discover the existence of the "Angels," as he referred to them. Alas, the subjects of his theorems have been considered metaphysical and unfit for professional publication, though he has amassed quite a following, especially among members of underground religious and political societies.
